Servicing an overhead crane, changing a roof light or working on a mezzanine gantry is a job someone does weekly. Familiarity is the mechanism by which the harness gets clipped to whatever is closest.
Anchor points that were never designed in
Factory roofs and machine frames rarely have engineered anchor points where the work happens, so improvised attachment is the norm rather than the exception.
Maintenance staff working alone
A fitter servicing a crane or a roof-mounted unit is often unaccompanied. If something goes wrong there is no one at the base of the ladder to notice.
Little enforcement infrastructure
Manufacturing sites generally have fewer dedicated safety observers than construction sites, and the safety function covers production risk as well as height risk.

What changes on site
Routine height work is monitored like the exceptional case
The tasks that produce most height incidents in manufacturing are the ones done most often. Continuous monitoring does not depend on a task being classified as high-risk that day.
Lone working becomes visible
A fitter on a crane gantry or a roof unit is positioned and monitored, so an unresponsive worker is detected by the system rather than by someone eventually noticing.
Existing harnesses keep working
Retrofitting avoids replacing a site's harness inventory, which is usually what makes the economics work for a plant that is not a construction site.
Data to justify the engineering fix
Alarm and low-anchorage records from real jobs are the evidence that gets anchor points installed and access platforms funded, which is the permanent solution the monitoring buys time for.
Frequently asked questions
Our harnesses are in good condition — is a monitor worth it?
Harness condition is rarely the failing. The failing is where the lanyard is attached, which no visual check of the harness can reveal. A monitor changes what you are verifying from equipment condition to attachment behaviour.
Do we need plant-wide Wi-Fi?
No. Detection and the wearer alarm are entirely on-device. A mobile data link is used for supervisor notifications, and the platform can be deployed on a private network instead.
Will it produce constant nuisance alarms?
Monitoring and non-monitoring modes can be switched per task, so legitimate non-harness work does not generate alarms. Nuisance alarms are the fastest route to a device being ignored, so the configuration is deliberately task-based.
How many units would a plant like ours need?
