Life safety protection is the primary task of confined space operations. Only by mastering the safety knowledge and skills of operation in confined space can effectively avoid accidents. Therefore, we should strengthen the safety management of confined space operations, improve the safety awareness and skills of operators, and make positive contributions to ensuring life safety.

Confined space refers to a closed or partially closed space with narrow inlet and outlet. With poor natural ventilation, it is not designed as a fixed workplace, and easy to cause toxic and harmful, flammable and explosive substances accumulation or insufficient oxygen content. Confined space operation refers to the operation carried out by operators in a confined space. In  confined space operation, there are dangerous and harmful factors in confined space, which may lead to injury or poisoning of operators. Therefore, knowing the safety knowledge and skills of confined space operations is crucial to ensuring life safety.

It shall evaluate the operating environment, analyze the existing dangerous and harmful factors, propose measures to eliminate and control the hazards, formulate confined space operation plans and emergency plans, and report to the responsible person of the enterprise for approval.

Safety protection facilities such as ventilation, monitoring, protection and lighting and personal protective equipment shall be prepared in accordance with the requirements of the operation plan and emergency plan.

In accordance with the operation plan, the person in charge of the operation site, the guardianship personnel, the operation personnel, the emergency rescue personnel and their respective safety responsibilities should be clarified.

Conduct special safety training for site leaders, custodians, operators and emergency rescue personnel engaged in confined space operations, so that they are familiar with the operation plan, possible hazardous factors and prevention and control measures at the operation site.

In order to protect life safety, the following points should be paid attention to when carrying out  space confined operations:

1. Practical and feasible safety operation procedures should be formulated according to the actual situation and strictly implemented.

2. Safety education and training should be conducted to enable operators to master the safety knowledge and skills of confined space operations.

3. Formulate emergency plans and promote regular drills to ensure that emergency measures can be taken in a timely when encountering dangerous situations.

4. Site management should be strengthened to ensure the safety and order of the work site.

5. The maintenance of personal protective equipment should be strengthened to ensure its effectiveness.

6. A file management system should be established to manage the files in the confined space and record the time, operators, gas detection data and other information of each operation.

7. Before carrying out confined space operations, approval and authorization should be obtained from relevant departments, and declaration and approval should be carried out in accordance with requirements.
